Haritage
This was another group project. Hairitage is a hair care kit designed to help adoptive parents care for their child's ethnic hair, providing detailed instructions tailored to their hair type.
It includes mini-sampler products for trial, information on diverse hair characteristics, and resources to empower parents in nurturing their child's unique hair, fostering confidence and pride in their identity.
This was another group project. I worked on the packaging and characters mostly, but we also created a booklet for foster/adopted parents to learn more about their child’s hair type and the products that are in the kit.
The Mission
Brand Identity
When creating a brand identity, we thought about fun colors and organic shapes for the kids to relate to and interact with.
Research
These were the results from an online survey we had sent out for people to take. Most of the results from people who had curly, ethnic hair loved their natural hair but struggled to find the things that worked for their hair and how they felt that there weren’t enough resources out there when they were kids.
We did some research on the subject and benchmarked products that already existed. We also had some insights about different brands, how different hair is perceived and how there are now programs in place for adopted/foster children.
User Testing
Through user testing, we got information on what was successful for what we were trying to do, which is empower young girls with ethnic, curly hair. We tested typography, color palettes, character design, packaging, and booklet information.
Character Iterations
The characters were meant to be kid-friendly and something that was recognizable when they got the box. We had a few different iterations before we landed on the last one.
Final
Packaging Iterations
For the packaging, we had the basic design that we wanted in mind. We were unsure of the design so we went through a lot of design iterations with lots of feedback from user testing.
This first round of testing, we created a package where It had a “advent calendar” style package, where the users would punch the holes in to get their products out. However, during user testing, users didn’t like that they couldn't see the products.
Users liked the line design because it looked like a strand of hair. So we tried to incorporate that in our future design.
In this last round of testing, we found that users like having the products and what they are used for listed on the back.
